HP IPAQ 514

HP has resurrected a slightly stale product line with the launch of the new iPAQ 500 series Voice Messenger from 3GSM in Barcelona today. This bar style smartphone runs the new Windows Mobile 6 Standard operating system and includes many connectivity options for business users.

As is fast becoming a standard for smartphones, the HP iPAQ 500 series is a quad-band GSM device with GPRS/EDGE data. The unfortunate lack of 3G data is countered by the inclusion of 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity, with a UMA client available for the device, and Bluetooth v1.2 included for short range connectivity. The 500 series includes over 20 voice commands to navigate around the user interface, and can even read email and SMS messages to you aloud. Its 102g (3.6oz) weight packs a 1.3 megapixel camera and 2" TFT LCD with a 176x220 pixel resolution. On the memory side of things, 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM is expandable with microSD memory cards. All this runs atop a TI OMAP 200MHz processor.

The HP iPAQ 500 series Voice Messenger should be available in the United States in Spring this year direct from HP and through authorized dealers. More live photos of the new device from the show floor at 3GSM are available on the following page.
