Taking everything that made the original Bold so popular and fixing the few bits that didn't work, means that this version is as thoroughly reliable as possible and yet a joy to use and behold.

Smaller & lighter than its predecessor at just 122g and measuring a mere 109 x 60 x 14.1mm, the handset manages yet again to cram a lot inside such a small, light shell. The 2.4-inch display offers 480x360 pixel resolution for ultimate clarity and usability in all lights.

One of the main differences in use is that this phone uses a touch pad rather than the roller ball to navigate the menu system. The latest software version comes pre-loaded, making a refreshing change from anyone who was used to the old version. A whopping 5 hours talk time and 15 days standby can be achieved from the 1500mAh battery - enough for most business users we reckon.

Other useful features included with the Bold 9700 include 3.5G support, WiFi and GPS, a full multi-media player, a 3.5mm audio socket and microSD expandable memory. The 3.2Mp camera has auto focus, flash and supports geo-tagging.
